November Interior Design Update - Get Cosy at Home with these easy Interior Design winter update Ideas..

Enhance your living space and create a warm atmosphere during the cold winter months by implementing the following ideas:

  • Upgrade your lighting fixtures to create a cosy ambiance.

  • Add plush throws and cushions for extra comfort.

  • Use warm colour schemes like earth tones or deep blues (more below on finding your palette).

  • Add a rug to add warmth to your floors.

  • Display candles or fairy lights to create a soft, inviting glow.

Dear design community,

November is already upon us, and despite the increasing lack of daylight (the clocks going back never fails to surprise me, every year!) it remains one of my favourite months.

The leaves are crisp and golden, there’s a sharp nip in the air that calls for the big, warm coats and woolly scarves to come out from their summer slumber, and everything starts getting a little cosier at home with autumnal colours, soft lighting, blankets and throws reigning supreme.

Before the manic festive period gets well and truly underway, November presents the perfect opportunity to flex those interior design muscles and get your home ready for winter. After all, this is the time of year we start spending more and more time indoors - so why not start making the small or big changes to your living spaces that make it the hygge haven you deserve?

Let’s get colourful

For me, late autumn is when colour really comes alive. Whether you want to fully lean into those ombre seasonal tones, want to elevate your home with vibrant tones or seek out the colour combinations that perfectly encapsulate your personality, knowing how to work with colour is a fundamental tool in any interior designer’s arsenal.

However, it’s easy to hit no shortage of stumbling blocks when looking to get started with colour - there’s literally thousands of hues, tones and shades out there to choose from, and knowing how to harmonise, contrast and seek out and define the best palette for your needs isn’t always a simple task.

I’ve recently come across this fabulous Coolers blog - it allows you to play around with colour combinations and see which tones you’re drawn to and which might work best in your space. It’s yet another fantastic tool I wish was available back when I was a design student, and one I’m sure you’re going to love.

Interior Design Course news

For those of you already booked on my Interior Design course at Bristol’s ever-inspiring Folk House, thank you very much - I’m really looking forward to spending some quality time with you all and seeking out inspiration together. This imminent course is completely fully booked, but I’m delighted to announce that the dates for next year’s course will be released very soon - watch this space to avoid disappointment!

If you’re interested in studying the wonderful world of interior design with me, these courses cover a lot of ground and help build your confidence in setting off on your own interior design journeys. Together, we’ll start by piecing together your individual mood board, before continuing by diving into colour theory, identifying the seven principles of interior design, creating a detailed floor plan and completing a full concept plan with all you need to pull a room together. Along the way, I’ll be sharing plenty of insights into everything from lighting, furnishing, number-crunching for designers, textures and more… while making great friends and exploring ideas side by side.

Lampshade Workshop update

For all of you who have asked about my popular Lampshade Workshop sessions, I’m pleased to say that they’re back for the end of the year - book today to avoid disappointment!

On the 16th of November, I’ll be holding my small lampshade workshop at Creative Space on Staple Hill, where we’ll gather together to craft a beautiful 20cm lampshade to take pride of place in your design-led home.

Also at Creative Space in Staple Hill, the large lampshade workshop will be hosted on the 6th of December. If you’re looking to learn a new crafty skill and have a great evening out, this is an event not to be missed!

Keeping cosy for November and beyond

As the mercury starts to plummet, there’s plenty you can do to keep your homes toasty and warm as the winter weather begins to bite. From a design perspective, I love how this time of year calls for layered blankets, fluffy pillows and heavier drapery - all of which suggest snuggly evenings with a big mug of hot chocolate and a loved one.

Practical tips like draught excluders beneath your doors, resealing your windows and possibly investing in more heavy-duty insulation can make a world of difference not only to your warmth levels at home, but also your energy bills too. I’d also recommend getting out your candles and tea lights; they might seem like an insignificant way to warm up your room, but there’s something about candlelight that never fails to hit the right spot on a dark November evening.

My Decorex 2024 journey

Decorex - Europe’s premier interior design expo - returned to London’s Olympia last month, and you can bet I soaked it up all with no shortage of glee. If you’d like to get closer to everything I uncovered, or if you’re thinking of heading to this fantastic showcase next year and want to know what it’s all about, head on over to my Instagram account @hannahreddeninteriors to follow my week-by-week journey over there. I promise you won’t be disappointed!

Until next month, stay warm, stay cosy and stay inspired!
