Reflecting on 2024: A Year of Creativity, Gratitude, and Exciting Plans for 2025

Well, dear readers, it’s that time of year again.

The streets of South Bristol are starting to twinkle with fairy lights, our local high street is increasingly thronged with ever more desperate shoppers, and the mornings are sparkling with frost. Christmas may seem to come earlier and earlier each year, and while I can’t say I’ve quite got that festive feeling yet, there’s no denying there’s something magical about the onset of winter.

It’s the time of year to make the most of your homes, start planning design projects for the new year, and looking forward to exciting new projects. More than anything, however, December is a month that allows us the gift of retrospect. It’s a time in which we can look back across the achievements and high points the year has brought, and meditate on the lessons we’ve learnt along the way.

It’s also a month in which gratitude takes centre stage… and as always, I’ve got so much - and so many people - to be thankful for. Before I dive into my end-of-year round up, I’d like to express an enormous thank you for all my wonderful clients in 2024, many of whom have helped me take great strides in my career and explore new avenues, new designs, and bold new ambitions. I’d also like to thank everyone who came to any of my workshops (what fun we had, and what wonderful friendships were formed!), everyone who helped me get my new services off the ground, and all those who have given me the opportunity to grow more than ever before, thank you Mastered.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

So, 2024 - what a time it’s been. I can’t talk about this particular year without shining the spotlight on a couple of truly exciting ventures I’ve been involved with as designer, and which have given me the opportunity to put my heart, soul, expertise and experience into creating some really fantastic results.

  • My Long Ashton project was a particular high point (feedback featured above); a top-to-bottom kitchen and bathroom renovation which I project managed, that ended up not only looking absolutely wonderful but which truly breathed a new lease of life into a bustling family home. Photoshoot incoming next year.

  • My interior design course at Bristol Folk House (forever my spiritual home in this dynamic, creative city I love so much) has been a roaring success, with the last three courses all selling out. I can never get enough of the enthusiasm, passion and shared encouragement of the students who come along to this course, and I’m looking forward to taking it even further in 2025. Read their reviews here.

  • I was delighted to be a finalist at the Bristol Property Awards 2024 - to get this kind of recognition for a lifelong passion and career is never anything less than humbling, thrilling and deeply moving.

  • To be invited to attend a talk by Annie Sloan - inventor of Chalk Paint and a true icon of British contemporary art and design - at The Little Theatre in Bath was another moment I’ll cherish from this year.

And so, as the nights draw in and we retreat to our cosy interiors, we then turn our minds to the future.

I’ve got high hopes for 2025, and it’s a year in which to really build on the successes of 2024 and continue doing what I love most. Most pertinently, it’s a year in which I will be hopefully meeting even more of you at my upcoming courses, and sharing our passion for interior design and crafting beautiful items that bring personality to our homes.

  • My interior design courses for 2025 are now live on the Folk House website, and are highly likely to sell out once again. As such, don’t miss your chance to attend this immersive, fun and informative set of design-led sessions, in which I’ll be sharing my knowledge of interior design, mood boards and concept creation, and giving you the confidence to dive headfirst into your own projects.

  • For all of you who have asked - yes, the Folk House lampshade workshops will be returning in the new year! My January date is fully booked, however I’ll be running the next one on the 1st of February, so book now to avoid disappointment. I then have further Lampshde workshops at Creative Space They’re always great fun, and it’s a fabulous chance to spend the day with like-minded people and come away with something gorgeous for your home.

Until then, all that’s left to say is that I hope you have a wonderful, creative and cosy December, a merry Christmas to those of you celebrating, and a very, very happy new year.
